Evaluation
Evaluation tests were conducted on each component of the system after every major change. Some of the key tests of our system are described below.
Water Environment Tests
The system was tested in different water environments.
Asano was specifically designed for deployment in still water (as seen below), with no streams and strong currents and it will be unstable in other environments (like rivers). However, if we were to expand the project, we may consider increasing the size of the vessel and also its velocity, in order to counterbalance a river’s current.
On the left, Asano can be seen moving forward in a lake environment. On the right, it can be seen in a river environment, as it is unable to counterbalance the current.
Autonomous Navigation Testing
The navigation system of the boat was tested by having a set of points scattered across the map for the boat to travel to and then return to the starting position. The result of the test can be seen in the graph below:
